Mac Donovan’s sire is the black pearl Sir Donovan (by Sir Donnerhall) who was approved in Hannover (2009), and in Oldenburg and by BWP (2010). Partnered with Nick Van Laer, Sir Donovan claimed 13th place during the World Championship for five-year-old dressage horses in Verden (2012). In 2013 Sir Donovan was laurelled in Gesves as the six-year-old dressage champion. In 2003 Mac Donovan’s grandfather, Sir Donnerhall, was ‘second reservesieger’ during the Oldenburg stallion expertise in Vechta. Two years later he won the stallion tests in Adelheidsdorf, were he obtained an unprecedented dressage index of 163,87. In 2006 he was crowned as the ‘Bundeschampion’ of five-year-old dressage horses. Weltmeyer, the sire of Sir Donovan’s dam Watani, features in the top 50 best suppliers of dressage horses in the world. And also Bolero, the sire of Watani’s dam, enjoyed a very good reputation as a supplier of brilliant dressage horses.
Mac Donovan’s dam is called Elka. Her sire, Cantos, was born out of the combination of the progenitor Contender with Gabanta. Partnered with Henk van den Broek, Cantos won the Dutch stallion competition class M. Marc Houtzager and Cantos later collected several ribbons during showjumping competitions. Subsequently, Julia Kayser wrote the sequel to Cantos’s success story, including participations at international five-star tournaments. Gabanta, the dam of Cantos, jumped at Grand Prix level under the saddle of Henk van den Broek. Cantos’s grandmother, Abanta, performed at international level. Alina, the great-great-grandmother of Mac Donovan, produced Olympic dressage horse Galm (sporting name: Renzo, sire: Wendekreis). Galm was an Olympic Games participant in Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996, partnered with Otto Hofer and Eva Senn, respectively
